Thank you for your interest in the Homestay Program at London Language Institute. We are always looking for warm and caring individuals to partner with us to provide an unforgettable educational experience for our students in Canada.
Our students come from around the globe – with varied interests and goals. We have students as young as 11 years old during our summer months, and the majority of our students from September to June are between the ages of 16-25. Occasionally, we welcome more “mature” students as well – our oldest homestay student was 77 years old! Some students may stay with as little as a few weeks; others may stay a year or more.
Homestays are responsible for providing a private, furnished room in the home (including bed with linens (bedsheets, comforter, pillow, towels), closet and/or dresser for storage of personal items, and a desk with chair for studying. Laundry facilities should be available for student use, though homestays are not required to do the laundry for students (instruction and assistance will likely be required in the beginning). Homestays also provide students with 3 meals/day – breakfast, lunch (packed on school days), and dinner. Homestays need to be accessible to downtown London by bus (preferably less than 30 minutes on direct bus route). Homestays should be a “home away from home”, where students can share time and conversation with the members of the homestay, and feel safe and welcomed. A monthly fee of $800 is paid for the room, board, and care provided.
If being a homestay sounds like a good fit for your home and family, please complete the application form that follows. The application will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Please provide as much information as possible, as this will assist us in matching you with a student who is a good fit for your home. We understand that some of these questions may appear to be very personal; however they are not meant to be discriminatory. Our students often have preferences of families in regards to religion, age, and family dynamics, and we try to match families based on these requests to the best of our ability.
Once the application has been submitted, we will email you to ask for a few photos of you and your family, your home and the room(s) the student(s) will live in. We will also ask to you to provide a valid (clean) police check for the vulnerable sector, which is not more than five years old for each member of your household who is 18 or older. If you do not have police record checks available now, we will provide you with instructions on how to obtain these. Once we have the application, photos and police record checks, our Homestay Coordinator will review the application and contact you to set up a group information session for several applicants together. Finally, an interview will be conducted in your home (approx. 25 minutes). Thank you again for your interest and we will be in touch with you promptly.
